RCColumn: Analysis and Design of RCC sections under axial compression and biaxial moments

SP: 16 gives interaction curves for rectangular and circular sections. Moreover, in rectangular sections, the publication only considers all round bar arrangement and bars on any two opposite faces of the column section.

This may far from reality in many cases..!!!

We most commonly have L and T shaped columns. Further, shear wall sections are rarely of rectangular shape. Shear walls are usually constructed around lift wells, or corners which give a shape of C or L sections. No interaction curve or chart is available for such cross-sections.

RCColumn generates interaction curves and strength envelopes for any arbitrary section defined by straight line segments with arbitrary postion of bars. RCColumn uses Finite Element techniques for obtaining these curves.

RCColumn calculates the ACTUAL NEUTRAL AXIS ANGLE and computes the stress block accordingly.

Thus, RCColumn helps in the following cases:

  • Generation of interaction curves and strength envelopes for L and T columns.
  • Generation of interaction curves and strength envelopes for arbitrary shaped sections for columns and shear walls.
  • Make scripts which help generation of a section - parametrize the section. For example, once a script is made to generate L section, any L section may be generated by just changing the parameter values in the script - quick generation of sections.
  • Pre-programmed to generate L, T, Plus, Tube, [, etc shapes for cross-sections.
  • Computation of actual neutral axis angle allows precise calculation of section capacity.
  • Calculate the actual capacity under bi-axial moments and not by empirical equations.
